Great Minds Think Alike

I've been reading the Pathfinder Chronicles Campaign Setting I picked up at Gen Con and am really enjoying it. There's lots of stuff I'm going to add into the Parsantium campaign -- for example, the Keleshite, Tian and Vudran racial descriptions will work well for PCs coming from Akhran, Tiangao and Sahasra with a few tweaks. There are also lots of cool descriptions of locations, including cities and adventure sites that will work well in the setting too. The one kingdom I've read about that I didn't like was Galt - with its guillotines, tricolour flag and revolution, it's clearly based on France and that's jarring to me in a pseudomedieval fantasy campaign sourcebook.

The "decadent failing empire" of Taldor is obviously partly based on Byzantium -- Grand Prince Stavian III has fierce mercenaries from the northern Land of the Linnorm Kings in his employ just like the Varangian Guard, the nation's bureaucracy is "Byzantine", and the city of Oppara has an old temple to Aroden called the Basilica of the Last Man. There's a sourcebook on Taldor coming out in April 2009 -- I think this is going to be worth me picking up....
