Kaidan Session #11 Sweet Song of the Harpy

It felt like we got a lot done in last night's game! Maybe it was because Serl wasn't there?

We stepped out on to the large balcony overlooking the valley below, only to get ourselves mesmerized by a harpy in the summer house built into the side of the mountain. I managed to snap out of the enchantment after she'd attacked me twice (!) but then took ages getting upstairs to her nest while Unk the hadozee bravely fended her off while hanging from the walls. Yes, Unk, Jeff's character! I know it's hard to believe but after fighting a ghost single-handed for a few rounds last session while Barbara the barbarian cowered, he carried on with his heroics this week.

When I finally did get up there, I fumbled with my bow and arrow and shot Unk by mistake in the face. Oops. Anyway, it all turned out OK as the harpy flew off once we'd done quite a bit of damage to it. We searched the building, with Unk disabling several traps to find...... a silver tea set. It looks quite nice so maybe it will fetch a few gp when we finally get to the bottom of this mountain and civilization.

Heading back inside and down some more steps, we emerged into the light again on the other side of the lake. Unk and I scouted ahead, spotting a hobgoblin with a "sniffer goblin" on a lead and half a dozen other goblins. We decided to give them the slip and press on. After a short while we came to a bridge across a river guarded by four hobgoblins. We couldn't ignore these guys too so Unk and I sneaked up, hiding in the long grass. Unk fired his crossbow and I ran into combat as Barbara (much braver this week!) ran across the bridge. Pretty soon all of the hobgoblins were dead. It was at this point we realised we didn't need to cross the river in the first place. Oh well.

We carried on, climbing over a tall ridge (dragging Chao up - he's not a great climber) to avoid a guard post but eventually found another hobgoblin fort blocking our path. Our lizardman companion piped up with a suggestion that we go through the swamp instead. We need to decide what to do next time but neither option seems that appealing!

Glad you enjoyed it. It's much less serious than the ones I've written for campaigns I'm DMing.

Maybe you could multiclass again?

There seems to be a lot of avoiding and going around danger. Surely there should be heroic leaps into certain danger!

Re: ....avoidance
Well, I think we're just trying to get down the mountain and back to what passes for civilization on Kaidan as quickly as possible. We investigated the ghost in the little house and ended up needing to rest for two or three days afterwards so we're trying to avoid unnecessary trouble.

Re: ....avoidance
That's what lured us there in the first place. We were conned by a goblin.
