After a couple of weeks on holiday, I played in ninthcouncil's 3.5 D&D campaign again last night. Our situation had improved and then again it hadn't. We were off the weird Island of Lady Kai but unfortunately we were on yet another boat. None of us have Profession: Sailor but with the confidence of the clueless we were confident we were sailing towards the magical island of Kaidan after which the whole campaign is named. Worryingly Serl, the wordy beguiler, was back and seems to have grown Hellboy-style horns - apparently[info]z45tu7 had been reading the Tome of Magic and couldn't resist a complicated multiclass build. However, our pyromaniac halfwit elementalist Chao Ling Fu wasn't in the boat - perhaps the others had decided to leave him (her?) behind due to his inability to cast cure light wounds. evilmonkey8472's hippy druid has also gone AWOL

Anyway, after sailing hopefully in one direction we soon encountered a peg-leg female cleric in a rowboat. Taking pity on this sad individual calling herself Ai Shoo we allowed her to join us in our bigger boat which was then picked up by a giant roc, carrying to its nest high in the mountains of Kaidan. At least we were out of the boat and somewhere on the right island!

Climbing out of the nest, we had a look inside the building it was resting on which turned out to be the tomb of a penniless king with very little treasure and guarded by skeletons. Fortunately they were no match for our new companion who destroyed them with her holy powers. As we headed off again, Serl summoned an old crone from a tomb which appeared from nowhere and ended up with a stupid rictus grin. He has clearly lost the plot.

Further proof of this emerged when Unk and I sneaked up on a ruined village occupied by goblins. Serl walked up to them openly, wearing the penniless'  king's crown, proclaiming "One's king has returned!" The ungrateful goblins peppered him with javelins and arrows and he ended up on -6 hp. Reluctantly Ai Shoo healedhim afterwards despite thinking he was a demon; Barbara kept slapping him about which wasn't very helpful. We managed to interrogate the one surviving goblin who told us lots of useful stuff before Serl decided to snuff our the poor little chap's life.

We shall continue down the valley to investigate the "zombie farm" and the "screaming ghost in the little house".

Well, you certainly drew their fire, all right! I think we could probably have spared the goblin but hey ho!

Georg, Georg- how many times? no one EVER needs an obscuring mist. it's an evil pointless evil spell and should be purged and all casters of it should be burnt immediately at the stake and then reanimated and beheaded.

Georg, the gauntlet has been thrown down (or you've been helpfully slapped in the face with it!) You need to use obscuring mist in a useful way next session. I think you should get bonus xp if you do!

Re: helpful slapping about
I think we need to develop a variation - "obscurantist mist", which surrounds the enemy in a dense cloud of incomprehensible verbiage, rendering them unable to do anything but splutter in puzzlement.

Chow is (was) in the boat, just a bit quiet (Rob not being around this week). Hopefully I'll be able to post a recap of the last couple of sessions on Thursday. My desktop is still extremely wobbly, but once I've set up the new laptop I should be good to go again. Fortunately most of my data is on external disk drives so I will be able to access it again immediately.
