At World's End (minor spoilers)

Went to see Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End in a surprisingly near-empty cinema last night. Although it was a bit too long, I enjoyed it enormously, mostly for the jaw-dropping action sequences and also for the way that most of the loose ends were tied up.

Best bits: the monkey and the parrot, the multiple Jacks in Davy Jones' Locker, the Singapore battles, rocking the ship, and the final battle with the Flying Dutchman. Depp was brilliant as usual and the supporting cast were all pretty good although I still find Knightley and Bloom slightly annoying. Let's hope they don't appear in Pirates 4 if they decide to make it! However, the return of Geoffrey Rush more than made up for it. There were a lot of double-deals going on as with Dead Man's Chest - I'm not sure these all made sense but I gave up trying to work them out and just enjoyed the spectacle.

I liked the ending with Jack sailing off after the Fountain of Youth which features in On Stranger Tides, and the bit after the long credits was worth waiting for. Not sure about the Calypso sub-plot but I guess this was necessary for the titantic battle to take place around a swirling maelstrom.

Anyway, great fun - even my mother-in-law enjoyed it and she hadn't seen the first two films - but don't drink too much or you'll be dying for the loo. With the trailers, we were watching for 3 hours! Having said that, the time passed a lot quicker than Spiderman 3.

too long and convoluted
I can't help agreeing with a review I read that said there was so much emphasis on tying up plot ends from the first two films, it didn't actually get a plot of its own. Apparently it's 180 minutes - that's 3 hours, before trailers. Oh, and I actually quite liked the Calypso subplot, which gave us a Davy Jones backstory we hadn't had before.

Pirates - Ayeeee
AGREED! While it was the length was hard on the bum, it was a great ride. I don't want them to shorten the film, I want them to bring back the tradition of Intermission.

I do resent advertising at the theater, that is not a trailer. Haven't we paid enough, to not have to put up with Macintosh and Coke commercials!

I loved jack losing his mind, Careful where you step!

Good point! Bring back intermissions! Films are far too long these days.

Loved It ...
A lot of people said the same thing on the way out the cinema “was that really 3 hours long?” I have to agree the time flew while watching the film and I didn’t realise I had been sat down 3 hours. I personal think it got harshly criticised by a number of people as I enjoyed the film greatly.

P.S. Shooting the monkey out of a cannon PURE GENIUS …
