Naming People & Places

As I've been making notes on NPCs and locations for Parsantium, I've been struggling, as usual, to come up with names that are memorable without sounding stupid. This morning, I came across this very funny quote about names in D&D from S John Ross:

"When I’m far from Gryrax, wandering around Castle Zagyg, fighting Xag-Ya and Xeg-Yi with the powers of my Ring of Gaxx and my Talisman of Zagy, I wonder “Who made all this stuff? He shouldn’t be so shy about putting his mark on it in some way.”

The PCs in the Freeport Campaign started in Gryrax way back in 2000 and at 18th level now have a house there too, but I don't think any of us thought about the origin of the name! And, despite all the anagrams Gary came out with, the town of Stoink in the World of Greyhawk is still one of the best (worst) names on any D&D map. Tringlee is pretty good too.
