Two Gigs in the Same Week!

Three nights after going to see The Pogues kb98, Matt and I went to see Hank Wangford at the Carling Academy Islington: another artist we used to go and see regularly in the late 80s/early 90s. His new band, Hank Wangford & the Lost Cowboys, played a two hour set, mostly songs I hadn't heard before, but they also performed the old favourite S-A-V-E-D and Chico from Hank's first LP. Although there was no Bobby Valentino or Cissy Footwear, B J Cole was on pedal steel, the other musicians were excellent, and they played some rockin' country tunes. You can download several sample tracks at www.hankwangford.com.

my take on the gig
It was a fairly small gig, which started off quietly but gradually the audience warmed up more and more, till everyone was having a great time. Even the juvenile missing link who kept standing in front of us and looking round. It did feel a little bit like Hank's TV show, though, in that he explained every song beforehand. A bit less of this would have helped the atmosphere no end.
