Most Encouraging #dndnext Article Yet

James Wyatt has posted a very interesting Wandering Monsters article here on demons & devils, my favourite D&D monsters. It looks like we're going to see a return of the yugoloths to Hades from hints in the article - something I will be writing about in my If I Ruled The Multiverse post - and there's a poll to vote if the succubus is a demon or a devil. There's no reference to demons being elementals either - they are fiends. Overall it looks like some of the weird 4e changes are being reversed, a good thing, as well as some of from 2e/3e - the glabrezu is being cut back down to size so he's shorter than a balor again. This is the first #dndnext article I've read where I'm in more or less full agreement. Good stuff!

Hades and Yugoloths
I like this idea of Hades being important again. I tried to do the same thing in my cosmology, although as of now I connected it to a particular time of the world (the Second Age), which is in theory thousands of years before playing time, unless the campaign wants to be set in that age. It still remains in the Third Age but without a true god of Death inside. Anyway, I had reimagined the Devils to be "tempters of the dead souls in Hades" (although coming from the Nine Hells directly below), but thinking more about it, I could put Yugoloths in that role, leaving Devils to be more traditionally interested in the living.
I agree anyway, very good read. As a shameless plug, here's the blog post in which I talk about Hades and possibilities for devils, from my new blog: http://lord-archaon.blogspot.com/2012/11/cthon-first-age.html

Re: Hades and Yugoloths
I love the yugoloths in Planescape - they got very short-changed in 4e.

Will have a read of your article - you should do a round up post of all your stuff when the carnival begins on 1st Dec!

I have to say, when I saw that Pathfinder had the leader of the Neutral Evil plane as the Four Horsemen, I was impressed; that is just clever.

I need to read up on the Pathfinder cosmology - is there a book for each of the lower planes?0

I don't actually know if there is a nice big Pathfinder cosmology book-- I don't think so, because if there was, I'd've gotten it, I think!

I think there might be one on devils and one on demons.
