Navras of the Tamiir-Quah

This is what my new Pathfinder PC, Navras, looks like:

url

Navras is a Shoanti, and was exiled from the Tamiir-Quah (Wind Clan) after nearly killing the man who attacked his sister. He has had to leave his childhood sweetheart, Conchaka, behind in the northern mountains of Varisia.

The Shoanti, according the wiki, are descended from the former slaves of Thassilon; did that inform your pick of culture, so as to have some sort of cultural connection to the Rune Lords?

No. I'd already decided I wanted to play a human ranger. Then I had a read through the original Player's Guide for the AP and the Shoanti just seemed to be a better fit than the Varisians.

Well, it is a neat confluence of history then, which reflects what I like about Golarion; there is enough detail that unexpected connections are there for any two options.

Yeah, I think Golarion is really cool. The only place I don't like is Galt. The similarities with real-world Revolutionary France are just too obvious and I find them jarring.

I was also very relieved that Taldor, the Golarion Byzantium, bears very little resemblance to Parsantium as I do want to do something with my setting in the future.

I find Andor problematic, as it is sort of an "idealized America" that I think sort of whitewashes the real America. Ideals of freedom & anti-slavery are all well & good but I find Andor a little too pat & convenient in a modern historical context where things like genocide & slavery are pushed to the margins of American History.

Hmmm, hadn't noticed that before - will give it a read.

Like, Andor is a utopian America, which is cool, but I just think it does a disservice to the real struggles that defined an imperfect nonfiction America. Or at least, that risk is present.

Is Andor the same as Andoran?

Oh I guess so!
