Book Queue

I didn’t read as many books last year as I wanted to so I’m going to try Joe Hill’s ten book queue where he literally lines up the next ten books he’s going to read in order on his shelf and then reads them. Books can be added to the queue but only when there’s a space in the ten.

Here’s the list:

  1. Heroes of the Feywild (D&D 4e)
  2. Tongues of Serpents by Naomi Novik
  3. Red Eye of Azathoth (Open Design/Call of Cthulhu)
  4. Snuff by Terry Pratchett
  5. Neverwinter Campaign Setting (D&D 4e)
  6. Iron Council by China Mieville
  7. Among Thieves by Douglas Hulick
  8. Under Heaven by Guy Gavriel Kay
  9. Alan Moore: Storyteller by Gary Spencer Millidge
  10. Final Empire, Mistborn Book 1 by Brandon Sanderson

I have no idea if this will work. I’ve already dipped into 1, 2, 3 & 5 but not finished any of them so it’s worth a try.

I hated ...Feywild but Iron Council is great! I'm curious about the Moore book-- I sort of adored Supergods.

What I do is I blog about what I read & I number them in the subject line. (I also write a haiku off the cuff). Then at the end of the year, I do a "Best of" list. I find it rewarding, & keeps me reading.

Just read your Feywild review and left a comment. The Moore book is good - part biography, part showcase for lots of his stuff. As I haven't read a new Alan Moore comic for years, I thought it might help me to decide whether or not to catch up on the stuff I've missed, like Supergods. It also explains why Big Numbers never got past issue #2 which I'd always wondered about.

I used to write monthly mini-reviews on my LJ - not sure why I stopped really but maybe I should start doing them again. I finished Tongues of Serpents this morning and it was rather good.

I look at the League comics when the come out, but I have grown...well, sort of bored with him! Which seems terrible, but here we are. I guess I feel like he plateaued...there was a while where he was resurrecting weird old directions & making new direction for the graphic medium...but then that...stopped. You know? Whereas Grant Morrison has only gotten better & better.

I've read the first book of League and 1910 - quite liked it as I've been a fan of Kevin O'Neill since Nemesis. Haven't read any Grant Morrison for ages. What would you recommend?

Do you like Capes? If so, his All-Star Superman is sublime, as is his Batman RIP & follow-up Batman & Robin.

More of a Marvel fan really but I do like Batman. Will check these out - thanks!
