Happy New Year!

Wow, where did 2009 go? The whole year went by in a bit of a blur! kb98  passed her driving test, work was mad busy and we went on holiday to Istanbul and, for the second time, to Southwest USA for a fab road trip. I also got to see The Specials on their 30th anniversary tour which was amazing.

Not only did I get some of my RPG writing published in the Iron Gazetteer, I actually got my name on the cover! I also helped with the conversion of Halls of the Mountain King from 3.5/OGL to 4e D&D. I'm signed up to two new Open Design projects - Courts of the Shadow Fey (4e) and Red Eye of Azathoth (Call of Cthulhu) - both are shaping up really well so far.

We finished the Freeport campaign with the final part of Bastion of Broken Souls, and the Lands of Intrigue campaign with the last chapter of The Banewarrens, wrapping up both long-running 3.5 campaigns, but kicked off the second Parsantium campaign with The Ongoing Adventures of the Juma Gang. The first Parsantium campaign hit its 31st session, with Wrath of the River King the main adventure we played this year. I also ran a "dungeon delve" for a group of newbie D&D players at work.

Mignola’s Marauders go from strength to strength – we survived Thunderspire Labyrinth and are now 8th level, currently confronting a cult of Dagon-worshippers at a seaside town in North Wales. I also got to play in z45tu7 's Gorilla King 4e adventure, ninthcouncil ’s Dying Earth game and ulthar01 ’s Trail of Cthulhu campaign. This year, kb98  and I have plans to play d20 Modern with a campaign set in the Urban Arcana setting.

I read 32 books this year, not including RPG supplements:

1. The Hard Way by Lee Child
2. Getting Things Done by David Allen
3. The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss
4. Gone Tomorrow by Lee Child
5. Adventures on the High Teas by Stuart Maconie
6. Thieves’ World, edited by Robert Asprin
7. Quiver by Peter Leonard
8. The Riven Kingdom by Karen Miller
9. Hammer of God by Karen Miller
10. Hellblazer Book 1 by Jamie Delano
11. The Dying Earth by Jack Vance
12. Blood of the Immortal by Hiroaki Samura
13. Hellblazer Book 2 by Jamie Delano
14. Hellblazer Book 3 by Jamie Delano
15-20. Swamp Thing Books 1-6 by Alan Moore
21. Swamp Thing: A Murder of Crows by Alan Moore
22. Interpretation of Murder by Jed Rubenfield
23. Endless Nights by Neil Gaiman
24. League of Extraordinary Gentlemen: 1910 by Alan Moore
25. Adrian Mole: the Lost Diaries 1999-2001 by Sue Townsend
26. Way of Shadows by Brent Weeks
27. Summer Knight by Jim Butcher
28. Mouse Guard: Fall 1152 by David Petersen
29. Dark Fire by C J Sansom
30. Thanks for Nothing by Jack Dee
31. Victory of Eagles by Naomi Novik
32. Fantasy Freaks and Gaming Geeks by Ethan Gilsdorf

My favourite RPG supplement was probably the Dungeon Master's Guide 2  which was full of interesting ideas and useful stuff, but I loved Manual of the Planes and am enjoying what I've read so far of The Plane Below.

Happy New Year everyone!
