I like the way on Absolute Classic Rock (or whichever digital radio station it is) they say "The Home of British Rock! Playing more classic British rock than any other station!" and follow it up with Steppenwolf or AC/DC

That's good!

Out of curiosity, I had a look at the top 10 artists in the "british" genre. They are: Arctic Monkeys, Beatles, The Streets, Oasis, Adele, Lily Allen, The Kooks, Kate Nash, Radiohead and Florence + the Machine.

It's always amusing how, despite us nominally having tastes in the same area, there are a number of bands on that list I would regard as completely unlistenable (e.g. Wombats, 30 Seconds To Mars, Everything Everything, Razorlight) and some I've never heard of - 'Allo Darlin? Water Tower Bucket Boys? You made that last one up!

I'm not that keen on 30 Seconds to Mars either - I listened to them and a few others on this list via Spotify and won't listen again!

Allo Darlin' are a very good indie pop band with a girl singer - I saw them at the Bull & Gate in Kentish Town a few weeks ago and they were great. You won't like the Water Tower Bucket Boys - they are a bluegrass band so banjos are in evidence.

Allo Darlin' seemed to sound muddy and weird and then I realised the jack wasn't properly pushed in. They're OK in a jangly low key Sonic Youth kind of way.

They are quite jangly but that's good in my book, and they use a steel guitar occasionally which gets them bonus points. I bought my first 7" singles in many years at their gig :)
