Too Close For Comfort: Marrakesh Bombing

We were very shocked to hear about the Cafe Argana bombing yesterday in Marrakesh having only just returned from our trip there last week. We didn't actually go to the Argana but it was a very useful landmark on the massive Jemaa El-Fna as we struggled to suss out Marrakesh and find our way around. Cafe Argana was in the top left corner of the square and marked the exit we needed to take to get back to our riad so we went past it over and over again.

The picture below shows just how big the "big square" is - it's the very heart of the Medina and an obvious target for terrorists wanting to get at tourists in an Islamic country. Cafe Argana is to the left of the minaret.

Yes, it gave me a slightly queasy feeling when I saw the news this morning, given that you'd been there so recently.
