Mesa Verde, CO

I thought I'd better finish off posting the photos from our Southwest USA trip this autumn.

I'd wanted to go to Mesa Verde since I got a "tea card" from a box of Brooke Bond tea when I was growing up in the 70s. The series must have been on ancient ruins or wonders of the world or something like that and I was amazed that people lived in houses built into the side of a cliff. My Dad missed it off the itinerary of all of our US trips as kids and we couldn't fit it in last year, but we finally got to go there this time and it didn't disappoint.

Mesa Verde and the Ancestral Puebloans also inspired Jonathan Nephew and Jonathan Tweet. Check out this illustration from the front page of a long-forgotten Maztica module, FMQ1 City of Gold:

I've always wanted to go! So glad you got the chance.

Wolf's parents took him for a summer tour of the SW when he was younger, the famous words being, "NOOOOOOO, not another kiva!!!!"

I look forward to subjecting our young one to the same treatment when she's old enough.

That's so funny! When we were kids and my Dad was driving us around the Southwest in an RV, we would say "Oh no, not another pueblo!" We just saw Mum & Dad's photos a couple of weeks ago and we went to pretty much the exact same places - Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Bandelier, Taos, Acoma etc!

I think we used to say "Oh no, not another ruin!" and "When can we go back to the hotel?" in Greece, Italy and Turkey too!
