From Istanbul

I'm writing this on Kate's iphone in the rooftop bar in our hotel in Istanbul's Old City. It's a bit cold and rainy so we're inside but the view is amazing: straight ahead is Aya Sophia, to the right is the Blue Mosque and the Sea of Marmara is in the distance as gulls fly overhead. There are hundreds of cats (and a few dogs in Istanbul). We've seen nearly 100 by now.

Yesterday we visited Aya Sophia, the spooky underground Basilica Cistern, the Hippodrome, the Blue Mosque and the Archeological Museum. Today, we went to Topkapi Palace (home of many giant-gem studded treasures), the Spice Bazaar (lots of spices but also Turkish Delight) and Suleyman's Mosque. Tomorrow we are off to the Grand Bazaar.

That sounds so awesome I can't even imagine. Post pictures! Tales of the Grand Bazaar!

Seattle, by contrast, is cold and has no Blue Mosque. Onion-domed Russian Orthodox churches, sure, but it ain't the same.

The Grand Bazaar was great - we did our best at haggling with marginal success. Will post photos on return!
